No Overdose Sign At Worcester Burger King Taken Down

WORCESTER,MA (WBZ-AM)  --  At the Burger King on Madison Street near Kelley Square in Worcester, customers were greeted with a sign behind the counter that reads:

“You’re ONLY allowed ONE overdose and then you are banned from this establishment.”

While the sign has been taken down, the tactic taken by the restaurant has caused a bit of an uproar.

“I think the sign really is a result of the stigma around addiction,” said Georganna Koppermann with AdCare spoke with WBZ-TV.

Koppermann says signs like this don't help in the midst of an opioid epidemic.

Some customers were also taken aback by the signs message

"You know from their standpoint they don't want people overdosing in the bathroom but It doesn’t mean you can put signs like that in a store,” said a customer to WBZ-TV

According to MassLive.com, there were nine overdoses at the Burger King on Madison Street in Worcester between September 2016 and September of 2017 .

In a statement to WBZ-TV Burger King says the situation is being Investigated.
