BOSTON (WBZ-AM) -- As students and families march in communities across Massachusetts Saturday as part of the global “March For Our Lives” rallies, advocates for gun ownership are also voicing their opinion. While many support marchers’ rights to assemble, they do oppose suggestions that would infringe on gun owners’ rights to bear arms.

Gun Owners’ Action League (GOAL) of Massachusetts Executive Director Jim Wallace said he supports marchers’ right to rally on Saturday, but he does not support what they’re proposing.

“I hope, eventually, that they will actually do some research and come to the conclusion that some of the things they’re asking for are heading in the wrong direction,” Wallace said.

Specifically, Wallace opposes any plan to preemptively prevent anyone considered unstable to have access to a firearm.

“We know these ‘red flag’ bills are not the answer because of the cruel manner in which they treat people with temporary crisis in their life,” Wallace said. “Also, the dangerous part – that if they’re trying to identify the next Parkland monster, all this bill does is let them go.”

GOAL has 17,000 members in Massachusetts.
