RMV Computer Upgrades Leave Some Hiccups.

WILLMINGTON, MA (WBZ-AM) – Car inspection station owners are happy to be back in business after the RMV completed a computer system upgrade.

It was a a busy day for car inspection stations, though reports some stations had a slow start with the new system.

Bob Doucette, the owner of North Willmington Service is expecting a busy week ahead, after he turning away customers during the RMV shutdown.

“Friday, I had eight people come in looking for [inspection] stickers and Saturday I had five or six…so hopefully we can pick them up,” he said.

Things are so far, so good, he says. However, his shop experienced a slight hiccup this morning, when the system took a while to recognize the vehicle identification numbers or VIN.

“Sometimes it comes right up sometimes it doesn’t,” Doucette said.

Another car inspection station owner told me one inspection took an hour to complete. And the system had the wrong inspection sticker numbers. But all of the issues have since been fixed.

Meanwhile at some of of the RMV Branches, there were long lines and wait times.

One driver from Chelsea went into the Wilmington branch hoping to find a shorter link. It took him over 2 hours to get new plates.

In Watertown, lines at that branch at the were wrapped around the corner at the Watertown Mall.

WBZ NewsRadio1030’s, Nicole Romanuk waited nearly 30 minutes to register a commercial vehicle. However, she reports that those who were waiting to obtain the new Real I.D. may have waited longer.
