BOSTON (WBZ-AM) -- WBZ NewsRadio 1030's Carl Stevens reads us a poem in honor of the real start of spring--baseball's opening day.

---

The wind, the flooding, the blowing snow...

all of it had to eventually go.

The calendar has suddenly started to sing:

The Boys of Summer will celebrate spring.

The highest-paid team in the MLB

will hit the field for you and me.

Tell your cousin Amy and uncle Ray

to meet you down in Tampa Bay,

The season's here, and we couldn't wait,

Let's waltz on down to the Sunshine State,

The Nor'easters are over...winter, see ya later:

We're playing baseball in the land of alligators.

And just like presents are delivered by Santa

Kimbrell will deliver the juice at Tropacana...

Get yourself a hot dog, a cup of beer...

Open up your heart, a new season is here.

The rest of the league will be a bucket of fail

When they step to the plate against Chris Sale,

The lake of potential will turn to ice

when a batter tries to hit off of David Price,

and a young man's knees will turn to jello

trying to hit a curve off Rick Porcello...

This team is hip and young and trendy,

from Mookie Betts to Benintendi...

from J.D. Martinez to Jackie Bradley,

other teams are gonna get beat....badly.

Say hello to spring: all the fauna and flora

and celebrate the boys of Alex Cora...

Put away your boots, place your hat on a shelf,

Baseball's here: enjoy yourself.
