Red Sox Starting Pitching On Historic Run

BOSTON (WBZ-AM) -- Alex Cora's Red Sox are 3-1 to start the season after finishing off the Rays with three straight wins--all one-run victories.

"I think we're playing good defense, that's part of it," said Cora. "Our starting pitchers have done an outstanding job, they did an outstanding job in this series."

Between the efforts of Chris Sale, David Price, Rick Porcello, and Hector Velazquez, Boston's limited its opponents to one run or fewer in each of its first four games. That's the first time that's happened in the franchise's 118-year history.

The group's combined to give up just two runs over 24 innings, with 23 strikeouts.

Red Sox Offense Off To Sluggish Start

The Sox are just getting their long year started--but unfortunately, Boston's bats haven't gotten the memo.

Brian Johnson will try to keep that run alive Monday night in Miami when the Sox begin a two-game set with the Marlins at 7:10 p.m. in the lefty's home-state.

He's never faced the Marlins in his young career. In fact, Johnson's made just six starts with a 2-and-1 record and 4-88 ERA.

But, that's six more starts than his counterpart Trevor Richards has made. Tonight will mark his major league debut.
