LAWRENCE, MA (WBZ-AM) – Dozens of Lawrence middle-schoolers have won a dress code skirmish over skirts in their charter school dress code.
For 23 years the Lawrence Family Development Charter school has required the girls to wear skirts in the spring and fall but, even though the calendar says April, it was cold this week so, dozens of girls donned their winter-approved khakis.
They also petitioned the board of trustees to change what they called an "outdated" policy.
I response, the Superintendent sent a note to families praising the students for their "civic activity" and says the student handbook will be updated.
He says it's "important to empower and support" student voices.
