BOSTON (WBZ-AM) -- Boston Celtics point guard Kyrie Irving will be out for the rest of the team's season as he recovers from knee surgery, the team said in a release Thursday afternoon.

Irving will have two screws removed from his knee during a surgery this Saturday.

Those screws were put in after he fractured his patella during the 2015 NBA Finals.

But during a procedure last month, the team release said, a bacterial infection was found near the screws--so they'll need to be taken out.

The team said Irving was expected to recover in 4-5 months.
