Man Shot Dead In South Boston; BPD Searching For Gunman

BOSTON (WBZ-AM) -- Boston Police are investigating after a man was found fatally shot in the head in South Boston late Thursday night.

The shooting happened in the area of Costello Circle in the D Street development just after 11:30 p.m. Police said the man was sitting in his car when he was shot.

The victim, a 20-year-old man who has not yet been identified, was later pronounced dead at Boston Medical Center.

This marks the city's 13th homicide of 2018.

A vehicle was towed from the circle with a bullet hole visible in the front window. Another SUV in the development's parking lot had it's back window shattered by a gunshot.

Boston Police Commissioner Bill Evans says officers are actively searching for the gunman.

"We're canvassing the area, we're looking for witnesses, we're looking at cameras," Evans said. "As usual, if anyone's seen anything, reach out to our homicide unit--617-343-4470, or our anonymous tip line at 1-800-494-TIPS."

Neighbor Eleanor Auerbach has been walking her two dogs in the area for years.

"I usually feel pretty safe walking around here," she said. "I'm still going to come here, I'll just be more wary. I probably won't come late at night."
