BOSTON (WBZ-AM) -- There's good news for Boston Public Schools.
According to a report by the National Assessment of Educational Progress, Boston made a seven-point gain in both grade 8 and grade 4 reading in the past ten years--and a three-point gain in grade 8 reading since 2015.
This assessment, known as The Nation's Report Card, finds that Boston Public Schools is just one of two large districts nationwide that made a significant gain in grade 8 reading.
Superintendent Tommy Chang celebrated the results, but said there's much work to be done.
“We have a lot of good news to celebrate with the results of these NAEP scores," Chang said in a release. "Our students continue to make gains and perform better than the nation in several key areas. At the same time, there is much work to be done to close opportunity and achievement gaps. BPS will work tirelessly to ensure that all students have an equal opportunity to succeed in college, career, and life.”
