BOSTON (WBZ-AM) -- The Animal Rescue League is asking for your help in finding a dog who was stolen from its Boston shelter.

ARL spokesperson Mike DeFina told WBZ NewsRadio 1030's Bernice Corpuz that three-year-old, gray and white pit bull mix Nick was taken on Sunday.

According to DeFina, a man went into ARL's Chandler Street shelter and said he was interested in taking Nick home.

Before finalizing the adoption process, he was allowed to spend some time alone with the dog.

"People need to get to know the animal, see if it's the right fit for them," DeFina said. "Walks are generally pretty short. We usually advise people to take them around the block, just kind of see if the personalities fit together."

The man followed all protocols, but DeFina said he did leave behind a key piece of evidence before walking away with Nick.

"He did leave an ID and left the building to take the dog for a walk, and unfortunately never returned," DeFina said.

He declined to release the Boston man's name while police investigate the case--he just wants him to safely return Nick, no questions asked.
