BOSTON (WBZ-AM) -- Chris Sale benefited from a lot of run-support in his Red Sox' 14-1 pounding of the Yankees to open their three-game set last night at Fenway.
The ace worked six innings, fanned eight, and gave up one run - his third straight start allowing one run or none.
A healthy, revitalized David Price has yet to surrender a run in his 14 frames, though, and he'll oppose Masahiro Tanaka tonight at 7:10 p.m. New Sox slugger J.D. Martinez is 5-for-9 with two homers lifetime against Tanaka.
Boston's tied for the best record in the majors at 9-and-1, and Sale knows that's important.
"You can go through all the cliches--it's a long season, there's a lot of games left, blah blah," he said. "But you see the morale in here, you see the energy, the confidence, the easiness. It allows you to go out there and just play. There's no pressing the panic button early. We're just going out there and playing the game."
