BOSTON, MA (WBZ-AM) -- Tatyana McFadden won the women's 2018 Boston Marathon Wheelchair Division Monday with an official time of 02:04:39.
This marks her 5th marathon win. It also marked the slowest wheelchair race in 30 years.
"It was really tough today," McFadden said to WBZ-TV David Wade from the finish line on Boyston Street. " I just kept my average, I'm really happy today was really Boston Strong." she said
In 2016, the Paralympic marathoner, had surgery to reduce blood clots.
"It was a long year, I never gave up... I love this course, I didn't want to give up," she said.
Susannah Scaroni finished in second place with an official time of 02:20:01 and Sandra Graf finished in third with an official time of 02:23:32.
Speaking at a post-race press conference McFadden says she wore two winter coats, a couple trash bags, hand warmers on her torso, and thought she wouldn’t make it up Heartbreak Hill before crossing the finish line.
