Former First Lady Barbara Bush Dead At 92

HOUSTON, TX (WBZ-AM) -- Former First Lady Barbara Bush has died at the age of 92 in Houston, TX according to a family spokesman announced on Tuesday.

Bush was First Lady while her husband George H.W. Bush was President between 1989 and 1993.

She was a key proponent of universal literacy during her time in the White House and later founded the Barbara Bush Foundation for Family Literacy. 

Born in New York in 1925, She was the mother of former President George W. Bush and former Florida Governor Jeb Bush. 

Barbara Bush and her husband were married for more than 70 years.  They resided in Houston and Kennebunkport, Maine. 

Barbara met George Herbert Walker Bush when she was 16, and the two married in New York in 1945 while he was on leave during his deployment as a Naval officer in World War Two.   

They had six children together and their first son, George Walker Bush, would become the 43rd President of the United States.  

Their second son, Jeb, would become governor of Florida. 

Since leaving the White House, she and her husband resided in the River Oaks community in Houston and at the Bush compound in Kennebunkport, Maine.
