Police and Residents Line Streets To Honor Fallen Police Officer

YARMOUTH, MA (WBZ-AM) -- Hundreds of Cape Cod residents and law enforcement officers have gathered in front of the St. Pius X Parish in South Yarmouth Tuesday to pay their respects to the family of officer Sean Gannon, who was shot to death in the line of duty last week.

Police cruisers and officers from across the region formed a convoy to accompany the casket to the church.

As the sea of blue lights slowly rolled down Barbara St, hundreds of police officers marched in somber union for their fallen brother.

They passed a gauntlet of civilians many with their dogs, most holding american flags who came to show support.

Among the convoy is police cruiser parked at the entrance adorned with blue ribbon and black bunting.

It was the police cruiser assigned to Gannon.

The officers from across Massachusetts and elsewhere will be making a procession single file thru the church to salute a fallen comrade for a wake Tuesday evening followed by a funeral Wednesday.

Massachusetts State Police are covering for the locals who are attending the funeral and will be here again for the funeral on Wednesday.

Officer Gannon's K9 partner Nero continues to recover from his gunshot wounds. He'll stay with Gannon's widow but, will not return to police work.
