BOSTON (WBZ-AM) -- The area around the Boston University Bridge and over the Massachusetts Turnpike will be closing once again this year for work on the westbound side of Commonwealth Avenue--and commuters are waiting to learn when they can expect another round of road closures.
MassDOT officials say both the BU Bridge and the Comm Ave will be closed for 15 days from July 26 to August.
They say that crews are ready for work along Comm Ave as part of a $110 million bridge replacement project, and is expected to release more information about the timing of phase 2 of the project Monday.
On the Mass Pike traffic will be shifted to two lanes in each direction for rush hour -- and just down to one lane during other hours.
The so-called "accelerated" bridge project gets done in a much shorter period of time, as intensive procedures--including pre-constructing bridge panels off-site--are used.
For those like Dennis who walk, drive, or take the T in the area of the BU Bridge, the next set of closures are going to be a lot like the last time around.
"It was a little difficult," he told WBZ NewsRadio 1030's Ben Parker. "It took a little more time than usual."
But Dennis said that, though it was a hassle, the improvements are noticable and worth the trouble.
"They put a lot of new steel, which is fantastic," he said. "The old structure had a bounce to it when you were stopped at a red light. It's so much better, so much easier to go over and drive over and everything else."
Others in the area, like Kevin, say that it's just something they have to deal with.
"Probably the best, it's going to be the fastest," he said. "They can't get it done during the winter--there's no way to do it, you can't count on the weather."
