BOSTON (WBZ-AM) -- The leaders of North and South Korea are vowing to end the Korean War, with North Korea's Kim Jong-Un crossing the demilitarized zone separating the two Koreas to meet with President Moon Jae-In.
Some local Korean-Americans say they still don't trust the North Korean leader.
But Kim Yonghyon, the South Korean Consul General in Boston, told WBZ NewsRadio 1030's Bernice Corpuz he's optimistic about the meeting.
"This meeting was very historic and very successful," he said.
Yonghyon said he recognizes that some people may be skeptical about North Korea's true intentions, especially following the military tensions of the last year--but now, he says, Kim's actions seem sincere.
"Maybe they thought that they cannot continue this isolation," he said. "If that is the case, then I think it is a good, positive direction ... We have to seize this very crucial, important opportunity to implement what they committed."
