BOSTON (WBZ-AM) -- The MBTA's door-to-door, shared-ride paratransit service will soon have a new operator after the T's Control Board approved a deal with a new contractor Monday.
Intelliride/Transdev Services will begin operating The RIDE service starting June 1.
The five-year contract is worth $57.4 million.
The unanimous vote comes about four months after the MBTA decided to end its contract with Global Contract Services.
That previous contractor was plagued with complaints, including missed trips and delayed pickups.
Even James White, Chairman of the MBTA's Access Advisory Committee, experienced long ride times.
"As a spinal cord injury person, bouncing around in a truck for 2, 3, 4 hours has a serious ripple effect," he said.
