BOSTON (WBZ-AM) -- The Red Sox lead the majors at 21-and-7 after a franchise-record 19 wins in April.
Boston capped the historic month with a 10-6 comeback win over Kansas City last night, powered by its sixth grand slam of the season. Pretty good for a club that didn't hit a single slam all of last year--and one that finished last in the American League in long-balls.
Xander Bogaerts has two of those bases-clearing bombs, including Monday's. He's batting .412 this season with 11 extra-base hits and 15 RBI in a dozen games.
Since returning from the disabled list, Bogaerts is 7-for-13 with six ribbies for Alex Cora's squad.
"It balances the whole lineup, it puts everybody in their slot, which is very important," Cora said. "I think, from one through nine, we're a lot more dangerous with him in the lineup."
Sox and the last-place Royals again tonight at 7:10 p.m. at Fenway. Chris Sale will oppose Jakob Junis.
Sale's allowed one run or less in four of his six starts to total a 2.31 ERA.
Junis has a 5.89 ERA his last three starts, and he's surrendered eight homers along the way.
Dustin Pedroia isn't ready to return after knee surgery, but he told The Athletic he's targeting a May 25th comeback.
