Firefighters Fighting Heavy Fire in Chelsea

CHELSEA, Mass. (AP/WBZ-AM) - At least two dozen people have been displaced as firefighters continue to battle a fire that has engulfed two three-story apartment buildings just outside Boston.Firefighters responded to a 6-alarm triple-decker fire on 10 John St. in Chelsea Wednesday afternoon.


Chief Leonard Albanese says they have the fire under control, "but not extinguished."

NBC 10 Boston reports a firefighter has been transported to a hospital with unknown injuries. He appeared conscious while being transported from the scene on a stretcher.

The fire began burning around 3:30 p.m. Wednesday and had collapsed part of one building's roof by the time firefighters arrived at the scene. 

It is unclear how the fire started.Twenty-five firefighters are on the scene, comprising at least three fire departments. Chelsea is located directly across the Mystic River from Boston.
