Drunk Off-Duty Trooper Could Have Charges Dropped

BOSTON, MA (WBZ-AM) -- Arraignment for a Mass State Trooper drunk on driving charges has been postponed, and the he is also being evaluated for a treatment program.

An off-duty Massachusetts State Police trooper was arrested late Saturday night on charges of driving under the influence of liquor and driving erratically.

Trooper Alfred Burgos, was arrested over the weekend after witnesses said he was driving erratically in Lynnfield.

He was off-duty at the time he was arrested and later placed on administrative leave.

He was supposed to face a Judge on Tuesday but that has been postponed to June 20 while the trooper is evaluated for the "Valor Diversion Program, " which can apply to those with prior military service, and no outstanding cases or warrants.

According to the Essex District Attorney's Office if Burgos is "deemed eligible for and would benefit from the program, the Judge can divert the defendant to the program and not arraign him on the charges."
