Opening Arguments Delivered in Mob Murder Trial

BOSTON, MA (WBZ-AM) -- Opening statements were delivered today at Federal Court in Boston in the high profile mob murder trial of Cadillac Frank Salemme.

Salemme and co-defendant Paul Weadick, are each charged with murder of a witness - in connection with the May 1993 killing of a Boston nightclub owner Stephen DiSarro.

Dressed in a light gray suit and looking thin, Salemme was wheeled into court, looking frail he listened during opening statements.

Prosecutor Fred Wyshak said the motive in the killing of Stephen DiSarro was clear: Frank salami was protecting himself and his son because he was afraid DiSarro was going to cooperate with the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

DiSarro and Salemme were partners in the Channel Night Club.

Salemme Defense attorney Steven C. Boozang, told the jury they were going to have to rely on testimony from some self-serving witnesses mobsters like Stephen Flemmi, who had a lot to gain by testifying.

He added just because let me did bad things in the past doesn't mean he's guilty of killing DiSarro.,

DiSarro body was found buried behind a mill in Providence in 2016.
