Underdog Celtics Believe In One Another

BOSTON (WBZ-AM) -- Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Finals between the Celtics and Cavaliers is Sunday at the Garden.

You know how this goes. C's were basically a pick'em in round one against the Bucks. Most expected them to lose to the Sixers in the conference semis. And, now, they're significant underdogs against the Cavs in their rematch.

Cavs took two of the three regular season meetings, and LeBron James has won his last four postseason series against the Green.

But, there's something different about these Celtics. When you lose All-Stars Kyrie Irving and Gordon Hayward and you're still winning, you become basketball's Cinderella story.

It's the second straight semifinals meeting between the C's and Cavs--and it'll also be Boston's seventh postseason series against a team led by LeBron James.

The other remaining championship contenders have Steph Curry, Kevin Durant, Klay Thompson, and Draymond Green...or James Harden and Chris Paul...or LeBron and Kevin Love.

The Celts have Al Horford and a bunch of kids with star potential.

The vet said his guys believe in one another.

"People from the outside probably expected not much out of us, but I've seen the way these guys prepare," Horford said. "I've seen the way that they train, and they want to be great. And they understand that it's bigger than them, it's about the team. We're playing for each other."

Tip-off is Sunday at 3:30 p.m.
