BOSTON (WBZ-AM) -- Boston's big offseason signing is still raking.

"I'm always ready to hit," J.D. Martinez said. "I just run up there ready to hit, pretty much."

It shows, J.D.

The designated hitter homered, singled, and drove in three in yesterday's 5-3 win in Toronto to lift his average to .342 and O-P-S to just 1.018.

Martinez paces the Red Sox with 33 RBI, and he's second only to Mookie Betts with 10 homers--as well as average, on-base percentage, and slugging percentage.

Red Sox Return Home For Seven, Start With Struggling Athletics

Boston will start a seven-game homestand tonight against struggling Oakland. Athletics have lost five of six.

Over the last month, spanning 27 games, Martinez is hitting .390 with eight home runs, eight doubles, and 23 ribbies.

His manager Alex Cora is sounding like a broken record talking about this guy.

"Been saying it the whole time--he's not just a slugger, he can hit," Cora said. "He works at it, he'll take his walks, he goes the other way. He's a complete hitter."

Sox will open a three-game set with the Athletics tonight at Fenway at 7:10 p.m. Rick Porcello will oppose Sean Manaea on the mound.

If you're curious, Martinez is hitless in six lifetime meetings against the lefty, with four strikeouts.
