BOSTON (WBZ-AM) -- Red Sox have opened their seven-game homestand with a pair of losses to the Athletics. They'll try to avoid the sweep tonight at 7:10 p.m.
It was a 5-3 setback last night, but Steven Wright made his season debut and first big league appearance since April of last season.
The knuckleballer tossed scoreless sixth and seventh innings, but the two baserunners he allowed in the eighth both came around to score with Bobby Poyner in the game.
Still, Wright felt fine about his 49 pitch-outing.
"I felt it was pretty good," he said. "It's one of those things, I just got to build off of what I felt, and just keep learning how to pitch at game speed since it's been such a long time."
That's good, but obviously Boston's struggled with losses in five of eight.
Chris Sale will try to stop the bleeding tonight. He's coming off a 15-strikeout game in Toronto and has a 2.17 ERA.
A's will counter with Trevor Cahill and his 2.25 mark. The righty's fresh off a trip to the disabled list for an elbow impingement.
