UMass and Mt Ida Officials Grilled By State Senate

BOSTON, MA (WBZ-AM) – The President of Mount Ida College may be subject to a subpoena, after he declined the senate post audit and oversight committee’s repeated invitations to testify,  another representative of the college was grilled about its proposed takeover by UMass Amherst on Wednesday.

Carmin Reiss, the chair of the board of trustees is defending Mount Ida against allegations that they intentionally kept students in the dark about the college’s financial problems.

She says the college made all of the required disclosures, but state senator Dean Tran says Reiss is much at fault as college president Barry Brown for the college’s downward spiral.

In the end, Reiss admitted that the college could have handled the situation better.
