Salemme Trial Again Sidelined By Security Issue

(FBI)

BOSTON (WBZ-AM) -- For a second day, the murder trial of former mob boss "Cadillac" Frank Salemme at Federal Court in Boston is on hold due to a security issue.

The U.S. Marshals Service is asking that the judge in the case institute extra security measures to protect the identities of two witness security inspectors expected to testify for the prosecution.

The Marshals are calling it a matter of life and death. They say the inspectors work undercover and often meet with people who are being protected by the government--people who've testified against the mob.

They say if the inspectors' names and faces are made public, it will put them and the people they're protecting at risk.

The judge has said the inspectors can use different names when testifying, but during a hearing Wednesday, the Marshals will ask that the public be moved temporarily to another courtroom, where a live audio feed will be provided as the inspectors testify.
