ROCKLAND (WBZ-AM) -- Parents in one South Shore community got quite the shock this week when they learned their children's Catholic school will be closing for good at the end of the school year.

Now, an effort is underway to save the Holy Family School in Rockland.

Father James Hickey cited a budget deficit and declining enrollment for his decision to close the school next month.

Parent Mark Pulsifer has two daughters who go to the school, and tells WBZ NewsRadio 1030's Kim Tunnicliffe parents aren't giving up hope, and are looking at other options.

"Everything from a GoFundMe page, reach out to alumni, even working with some other Catholic high schools in the area where this school feeds into," he said. "They could lend a hand as well."

Parishioner and school alumni Kevin Crane is also offering his help. Crane and his six siblings all graduated from Holy Family School.

"This is part of our life, part of our history, and part of our soul, really," he said. "This is more than a school--it's part of who we are."

WBZ NewsRadio 1030 reached out to the school principal and Father Hickey, but has received no response.
