BOSTON (WBZ-AM) -- The Boston Red Sox are designating Hanley Ramirez for assignment in order to open up a roster spot for Dustin Pedroia.
According to The Boston Globe, the team will walk away from $15 million left on Ramirez's salary, and they have seven days to trade or release the first baseman/designated hitter.
Predroia returns to the team for the first time this year Friday after having left knee surgery.
