BOSTON, MA (WBZ-AM) -- As the Red Sox go for the sweep of the Blue Jays, they'll hand the ball to pitcher Eduardo Rodriguez. Rodriguez has started 10 games this season, and has a 5-1 record with a 4.02 ERA and 65 strikeouts.
WBZ's Jonny Miller asked Red Sox pitching coach Dana Levangie about the importance of keeping pitchers on a pitch count in the modern world of baseball.
"When you have a good team, you want to protect your guys and make sure you get to the end of the season with everyone being healthy," Levangie said. "As much as you wanna win in April, it's really important to win in September and October as well."
And with a hot Red Sox start and the best record in baseball, Levangie credits the pitching staff for helping out. "Our starters have been pretty consistent for the most part, our relievers have been really good. Our three long guys... and Steven just getting added had been a big impact, not only for our team but our one inning guys late in the game," the coach added. "It's been a pretty special start right now and we're looking to keep going forward."
