WASHINGTON, D.C (WBZ-AM / 24/7 News Source) President Trump seems to buy the argument by his legal team that he can pardon himself. However, in a Monday morning tweet, he hints that he wouldn't.
He writes:
"As has been stated by numerous legal scholars, I have the absolute right to PARDON myself, but why would I do that when I have done nothing wrong? In the meantime, the never ending Witch Hunt, led by 13 very Angry and Conflicted Democrats (& others) continues into the mid-terms!"
"The appointment of the Special Counsel is totally UNCONSTITUTIONAL! Despite that, we play the game because I, unlike the Democrats, have done nothing wrong!"
A number of legal scholars who aren't working on Trump's Russia investigation team have written and said in interviews that Congress or the courts will decide the question of how unlimited a president's power is.
On ABC's "This Week," Rudy Giuliani, Trump's personal attorney, said it's an interesting constitutional argument if the President can pardon himself.
Giuliani believes the political ramifications would be tough. He added pardoning other people is one thing, and pardoning yourself is another.
Giuliani explained other presidents have pardoned people in circumstances like this in their administration and sometimes the next president, even of a different party, will come along and pardon.
