Apple Orchard Owner Fights To Convert to Pot Farm

CHARLTON, MA (WBZ-AM) -- The owner of an apple orchard in Charlton is trying to convince the Town to allow him to sell his farm to a company that cultivates and does research in the cannabis industry.

Nathan Benjamin, JR is the onwer of Charlton Orchards Group LLC and he's looking to retire and wants to seel his family's 94-acre farm on Old Worcester Road to  Valley Green Grow, a North Andover based company that wants to  construct an 800,000- to 1.5 million square-foot, multi-tenant greenhouse to cultivate cannabis for research as well as medical and recreational sales.

Right now things are up in the air.

Charlton Board of Selectman Chaiman John McGrath says there is an appoved host agreement but it's not been signed yet. 

There was an informal meeting in May for people to give their opinions and there will be another one on June 19th for those who couldn't make it to the first meeting for more public input.
