BOSTON (WBZ-AM) -- Celtics big man Daniel Theis is three months removed from a torn meniscus, but I caught up with the fan-favorite after his rookie season and he said he's making progress toward a healthy return next season.

"It's going well," he said. "I started running this week on AlterG, and I'm going to keep progressing over the next weeks, it's going to be important. I think I'm going to be on the AlterG for another two weeks, then I'm going to start running and everything else. I started basketball activities a couple weeks ago, it's great, you know, jumping, stances, shooting, little bit of ball handling."

Celtics' Daniel Theis Talks Rookie Year, Recovery

The Celtics big man talks to WBZ NewsRadio 1030's Adam Kaufman about his teammates, his injury and recovery, and more.

C's lost Theis and, more notably, Kyrie Irving and Gordon Hayward to season-ending injuries, and still came within minutes of facing the Warriors for a title. Theis believes there's a silver lining there.

"We were one win short to advance to the finals without Gordon, Kyrie, I didn't play," he said. "So next year, it's great for us, because you can see what this team is capable of. We've got everybody back next year--our team, our bench will just be deeper, and we can share minutes, we can share responsibilities in the game. Especially for Kyrie, for the players next year--he got a lot of experience, he won a championship, so he'll know what it takes."

Next year will be fun.
