Mayor, City Council Willing To Compromise Over Short Term Rentals

BOSTON, MA (WBZ-AM) There may be some fireworks at Tuesday’s Boston City Council meeting over the issue of regulating short term rentals, like Air BnB. The mayor is willing to compromise when it comes to owner occupied rentals, but he's holding form in other areas

Walsh says he doesn't mind that Councilor At Large Mike Flaherty changed his measure, that would've restricted owner rentals to 120 days a year. Walsh is okay with homeowners continuing to offer unlimited short term rentals. but the issue of eliminating investor units is not something he's willing to budge on.

“I'm not really sure what's gonna happen yet. if there's an opportunity, to make the bill, so that more people support it, it would be great to see that happen. there's just some non-starters. investor units are non starters. that's one of the reasons we're doing what we're doing. we'll see what happens,” Walsh said.

The ordinance would require short term owners to obey strict reporting requirements. it would also require Air BnB and other booking firms to sign agreements with the city.
