BOSTON, MA (WBZ-AM) -- Restaurant workers served up a special delivery to some lawmakers on Beacon Hill Tuesday -- cupcakes to the Offices of the Senate President and House Speaker.
A treat in exchange for their demand for better wages.
"We're fighting for more than just $3.75...$3.75 does not cut it" said Cali and Jessica who were on hand at the State House.
Both are college students who tell WBZ NewsRadio1030's Bernice Corpuz that both must work multiple jobs to get through school and make a living.
"Nobody pays for it but me" Cali said.
They’re urging lawmakers to pass a bill that would raise the minimum wage to $15 dollars, and would increase the wage for tipped workers to $9 an hour. They believe the current rates are not enough.
"This is not a living wage for us," said Jessica.
But Bob Luz with the Massachusetts Restaurants Association says servers and bartenders are already the highest paid workers in restaurants.
"To mandate that is what it should be across the industry when the industry is working quite well as it it -- isn't right at all," Luz said.
