CONCORD, N.H. (AP) - New Hampshire's top politicians say a Supreme Court ruling that states can force online shoppers to pay sales tax is bad for New Hampshire.
The high court on Thursday overturned a two decades-old Supreme Court decisions that impacted online sales tax collection.
New Hampshire doesn't have a sales tax, but the ruling could force its businesses to collect taxes for other states.
The state's Democratic congressional delegation and Republican Gov. Chris Sununu all responded that the ruling will create red tape that hinders the ability of small businesses to grow and create jobs.
Taylor Caswell, commissioner of the state Department of Business and Economic Affairs, is working with state leaders on finding a way to defend New Hampshire's businesses from what he called a "modern-day taxation without representation scheme."
