Boy Injured By Illegal Firework In Marshfield

MARSHFIELD, MA (WBZ-AM) -- Marshfield Police are asking for the public's help in finding the person who shot off an illegal firework on the beach in Brant Rock near Farragut road around 9p.m. Tuesday night.

Chief Phil A .Tavares, tells WBZ NewsRadio1030’s Kim Tunnicliffe the hat rogue fireworks severely injured a 10-year-old boy who was enjoying pre-Independence Day festivities on the beach with his dad.

“Shooting down the beach where there were crowds of people that struck a man in the leg and then exploded at the feet of his ten-year-old child severely burned both long portions of the child's legs,” he said.

Police say the child was carried off the beach by his dad both were met by paramedics who transported them to the hospital

Because it was dark and there were hundreds of people on the beach, it's been difficult finding the person who shot off the firework. Tavares says this is a serious offense. “Everything from illegal possession of fireworks disturbing the peace an assault battery by means of a dangerous weapon,” he said.
