Boston Police Increase Bicycle Patrols To Help Reduce Crime

BOSTON, MA (WBZ-AM) -- Mayor Walsh is applauding Boston Police for their latest effort to reduce gun violence in the city. More officers are hitting the streets on two-wheels to fight crime.

Mayor Walsh says adding 30 bicycle units to patrol parks and playgrounds just makes sense...

“When people see the presence of police in neighborhoods, it should be a positive interaction. having police officers on bikes, not motorcycles, but actually pedaling bikes - there's interaction there and i think people are asking for that. we'll see how it works,” Walsh said.

So far in 2018, overall shootings in Boston are down by 40, but there have been 4 more fatal shootings this year than there were at the same time last year.
