BOSTON, MA (WBZ-AM) -- It is a historical day in Boston as the Boston Police Department officially welcomes it's 42nd Police Commissioner.
Willam G. Gross is set to become the city's first black police commissioner. The Ceremony will take place Monday at noon at the Morning Star Baptist Church in Mattapan, where his mother has been a member for 35 years.
Bishop John Borders tells WBZ NewsRadio1030 that he expects a full house
" We're making room for an overflow too and we're trying to set up speakers outside. If we reach capacity so people in the community can also hear the event.," Borders said.
Gross started on the force in 1985 was previously Superintendent-in-Chief of the department.
He takes over for Bill Evans who retired last Friday after nearly 40 years with Boston Police. Evans is slated to take the head of Public Safety at Boston College.
