Authorities Name Suspect In New Bedford Fatal Stabbing

NEW BEDFORD, Mass. (AP) — Authorities have identified a suspect wanted in connection with a fatal stabbing in New Bedford.

The Bristol County district attorney's office said Thursday that police are searching for 51-year-old New Bedford resident James Andrews and are seeking the public's help in finding him.

Officials say Andrews has a history of violence, is considered dangerous and the public should not approach him. Authorities believe he is somewhere in the greater New Bedford region.

The DA's office says 47-year-old Allan Monteiro Sr., of New Bedford, was found dead when police responded to a 911 call about a stabbing inside a city apartment at about 5:30 a.m. Thursday.

No information on a motive has been released.
