WEYMOUTH, MA (WBZ-AM) -- It was quite the surprise for the wife of a fallen Weymouth Police officer. Officer Michael Chesna died last month, after he was shot by a suspect using his own gun.
On Thursday, thanks to the kindness of strangers and a New York City based charity, Cindy Chesna found out that her mortgage has been paid off.
Donations poured in from all fifty states and five countries, allowing Frank Siller, the head of the Tunnel to Towers Foundation to make this announcement at Weymouth Police headquarters.
"We're so proud to give you a paid mortgage receipt, that you're never going to have to worry about another mortgage payment."
Cindy told reporters how grateful she is to everyone who donated
"I just want to thank the Tunnel to Towers Foundation and the community for everything they've done for my family and my kids. It's just amazing how everyone's come together and helped," she said.
Cindy had her two young children by her side. All three were wearing Chesna Strong T-shirts.
