BOSTON (AP) - An audit has found several problems with spending and bookkeeping involving student activity accounts associated with Boston public schools.
The Boston Globe reports the audit found some schools used student activity accounts to pay employees, and others failed to keep receipts, invoices and other documents.
The audit found issues at nearly every one of the 118 schools it reviewed, but none amounted to a level that required a criminal investigation.
Student activity accounts are restricted to uses such as field trips, student clubs and proms.Schools are now required to place student activity funds into a master bank account, and they have been ordered to stop using hard to trace ATM cards.
The School Committee is looking to impose additional policy changes in September.
