Mayor Walsh Wants To Put Public Works Yard Up For Development

BOSTON (WBZ-AM) -- Boston Mayor Marty Walsh wants to put the city's space saver graveyard--the 18-acre public works yard on Frontage Road--up for development, but a key city councilor says not so fast.

One idea that's been kicked around for the location is a soccer stadium for the New England Revolution.

"It's a great opportunity here in this city to take a tow lot and a building that's old, and turn it into an opportunity to generate revenue to invest back into housing, the environment, and education," Walsh said.

City Councilor Michelle Wu said she'd like to see something that's good for the city--not what's going to bring the most money. Then, there's the issue of traffic, raised by City Councilor Ed Flynn.

"If we stop the growth of Boston because of traffic, then we're going to be a city that's in trouble in a few years," Walsh said. "We have to work and figure out, make improvements in moving people around and working with public transportation, working with other ways of transportation such as bikes and walking."
