BOSTON (AP) — No changes are anticipated in top leadership positions as the Massachusetts Legislature begins a new two-year session on Beacon Hill.
House and Senate Democrats are meeting in caucus Wednesday morning in advance of being formally sworn-in by Republican Gov. Charlie Baker.
Already the longest-serving House speaker in state history, Robert DeLeo is expected to easily win another term as the top Democrat in the chamber.
Senate President Karen Spilka is also expected to continue in the post she took over in July after a tumultuous year marked by the resignation of former Senate President Stan Rosenberg.
Sen. Bruce Tarr and Rep. Brad Jones appear certain to remain as the Republican leaders in their respective chambers. The minority party's already thin ranks dropped slightly in the November election.
