BOSTON (AP) — Attorney General Maura Healey said her top priority for her second term is confronting the state's ongoing opioid addiction epidemic that has left thousands dead in recent years.
The Democrat said that while Massachusetts didn't see a rise in opioid deaths last year, there's still more work to be done to ensure the state continues to make progress.
Healey made the comments Wednesday during a swearing-in ceremony in Boston.
Healey outlined other goals for her second four-year term including protecting President Barack Obama's 2010 health care law in court and fighting gun violence.
Healey also touched on areas outside the traditional scope of the attorney general's office, including improving public education for all students and calling for the state to meet its electric power needs with renewable energy by 2050.
