TYNGSBOROUGH, Mass ( WBZ NewsRadio ) — Members of the Tyngsborough, Chelmsford, and Peabody Police Departments recently partnered up with Cops For Kids With Cancer to help a child from Tyngsborough who was recently diagnosed with leukemia.

On Monday evening, four-year-old Harper Reis received a police escort fit for a top-level dignitary.

A motorcade composed of several dozen of police cruisers escorted Reis and her family with full lights and sirens from their home to the Tyngsborough Town Offices for a brief presentation during the Board of Selectmen Meeting.

The family received a $5,000 check donation to help pay for Harper's medical needs.

Edward McNelley, Director with Cops For Kids With Cancer, said the non-profit's mission is to “provide financial assistance so the family can concentrate on getting their child better.”

In addition, Reis was met with a glow of red fire trucks lights and fire officers from the Tyngsborough Fire Department who gave her high fives and a special pink helmet at their headquarters on Kendall Road.

Rich Howe, Tyngsborough Police Chief said that he was “humbled” by the amount of officers who turned out.

“This is truly what service above self is all about,” Howe said.

Reis, who was named as the Town's new Honorary Public Safety Chief for the Town by Howe, was allowed to briefly lead the Town's government. She shyly banged the gavel to end the presentation during the Board of Selectmen's public meeting.

The Reis Family has established #HugsForHarper hashtag on social media encouraging all to help raise awareness of Reis' illness and to help pay for treatments.
