BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — A New Hampshire teen says he is lucky to be alive after surviving a head on collision with a tractor-trailer that nearly killed him in January.

Speaking with WBZ-TV, 18-year-old Sam Lachance said that he is “so glad to be home.”

He spent the last few weeks recovering at Boston’s Spaulding Rehab Hospital.

The crash did not leave him unscathed. He suffered burn injuries on his face and hands and collapsed lung. His spleen was also removed.

Lachance, was traveling down Route 101 on January 22 near Dublin, New Hampshire when his Jeep crossed over the double yellow line and drifted directly into the path of the truck traveling in the opposite direction.

Video shows the 18-year-old's vehicle swerve into oncoming traffic, his vehicle colliding with the massive semi-truck trailer in a massive burst of flames.

The force of the impact ripped open the massive truck’s fuel tank causing an explosion and fire, police said.

Dashcam video of the fiery crash was captured by Marc Cramer, who was driving behind Lachance when it happened. Cramer and his son John managed to pull Lachance from the burning SUV.

“Thank you, very much,” he said. “You saved my life, I wouldn’t be here now if it wasn’t for you guys.”

Neither the Cramer’s nor the driver of the truck involved in the crash were injured.

Lachance says that he doesn’t remember anything about the crash. The only thing he does remember are his final days at the rehab hospital.
