BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Just over a year before her kidnapping and death, Jassy Correia survived a violent attack by her boyfriend.
In January 2018, Correia endured a brutal beating at the hands of her boyfriend, Miguel Castro. Castro was apparently jealous Jassy had been texting another man.
Court documents showed graphic pictures of Correia, her eyes and mouth swollen shut and blood all over her face, nearly unrecognizable. Police found her hiding under the basement stairs at Castro's house, barely able to speak.
Correia had texted Castro's mother pleading for help, stating that he was going to kill her.
Castro's been sentenced to 4.5 years in prison, but the conviction came without the help of Correia, who refused to testify against him.
At the time of her death, Correia was staying at an emergency shelter in Lynn.
Correia was last seen leaving the Venu nightclub in Boston shortly after midnight on Sunday, February 24, with a man later identified as Louis Coleman. Coleman was captured four days later in Delaware; Correia's family said police told them Correia's body was found in his trunk.
A GoFundMe account created for Correia's daughter has raised more than $142,000, well past its $50,000 goal.
