WELLFLEET, Mass (WBZ NewsRadio) — Two fishermen were rescued after their boat capsized in Wellfleet Harbor Tuesday.
Wellfleet officials say that that the Town’s Harbormaster along with two firefighters/paramedics responded to the area near Jeremy’s Point around 8:09 a.m.
The U.S. Coast Guard and other area agencies were also notified to help in the search.
Additional reports confirmed that there was an overturned fishing boat with two fishermen hanging on to the hull.
Around 8:27 a.m. the harbormaster and rescuers found the pair, and they were brought on-board the rescuers’ boat.
While both were conscious and alert, rescuers determined that the fishermen were in the water for about 30 minutes — both showed symptoms of hypothermia.
They were taken back to shore within minutes and sent to Cape Cod Hospital for treatment and evaluation.
No word yet on why the boat sank.
