CAMBRIDGE, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) —Several people were rescued after two crew boats over turned in the Charles River Friday.
According Cambridge Fire, rescue crews responded to two separate calls on the Cambridge side of the water near the Longfellow Bridge shortly around 7:17 a.m.
The initial call was for 10 people in the water. However, by time Massachusetts State Police arrived, that boat had already self-evacuated and additional assistance was called off .
Then shortly around 7:55 a.m. another boat, overturned.
Authorities say nine people were pulled from the water and while there were no injuries initially reported, they say that all would be evaluated.
Videos from the scene shows that one of the overturned boats belongs to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology's crew team.
It was not immediately clear as to why both boats overturned but officials cited windy weather with gusts.
