The Battle of Eminent Domain. The Newton City Council voted unanimously this week to seize Webster Woods from Boston College by eminent domain with the school vowing to challenge the action in court. In Hopkinton, town authorities are asking local business owners and residents to "donate" frontage for a downtown re-development that will include the addition of two bike lanes. If they do not turn the property over voluntarily town council says it will utilize eminent domain to take it. Should eminent domain be allowed in circumstances other than emergencies?
Pelosi Says Don’t Mess with Me I’m A Catholic. A reporter today asked Nancy Pelosi at her press conference announcing her direction to the Democratic House committee chairmen to proceed with drafting articles of impeachment against President Trump if she hates him. The House speaker responded emphatically “as a Catholic, I resent your using the word ‘hate’ in a sentence that addresses me." Was it appropriate for Ms.Pelosi to use her religion as a shield for unwanted questions?
